Hey, first post. Probably not a good one.
I was wondering how I can go about decrypting the preloaded game files for the game Borderlands. It preloaded today and the release date for it is the 26th, but I really don't want to wait that long to play it.
I'm looking for some way to decrypt the files, they are all encrypted, so that I can play. I'll add a couple of txt files located within the game folder. Does Steam usually use the same encryption for all the files are will the encryption be different for each one?
If this is the wrong place on the web to be asking for help with something like this. I do apologize I did spend over 6 hours trying to find a site that might be helpful...

this goes offtopic, but if its steam game, can't you use the undead patch or something to patch your steam so you can download and play EVERY game available in steam ?!
also where did you got those files from if game is not even out ?

If I may speak from complete ignorance of Steam, when they give you the prerelease data it would seem that there is no reason at all to give you the key for it. This should make it one of those actual hard encryption problems.

ooh, think i misunderstood. so its like you can order the game before its released, you can download data, but its encrypted ? so once the game is released, then it becomes usable, because they automatically update your account with the serial/key ?! and decrypts it permanently ?
if thats the case, then i doubt its even possible, because if you can't get the key, then only option would be brute forcing, ofcourse i might be wrong.

Well, I was hoping that maybe I could help some help with that here since it seems like website is all about decrypting and stuff it seems like. I guess it doesn't really matter now since the game is coming out tomorrow.

in my opinion (so a blind opinion without testing Steam or watching the files) the files are encrypted with a key released by Steam only at the right moment, this is the most logical solution if I would need to do something like that so it's highly probable that the Steam developers have done the same.

so as i tought, only way would be to brute force the key. its like breaking into something, because there is no way to get the key from steam (ok everything is possible online, you can hack into steam, but thats not a topic for Luigi's forum).
